When may I visit the Garden?
The 2023 season begins Friday, May 5 and runs through Saturday, November 4, Sunday, November 5 is Members-Only Day. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can register in advance at greenwoodgardens.org, by leaving a message at 973-258-4026, ext. 21. Messages are returned on Monday through Friday of the following week. You may also email visitorservices@greenwoodgardens.org. All registrations allow for a 75-minute self-guided tour. Important note: the last entry of the day is at 3:30 p.m.
What are Greenwood’s entry procedures?
- We recommend that all registrants arrive within 30minutes of your indicated time slot. The last entry is at 3:30 p.m. and the garden closes at 5:00 p.m. If your circumstances change, your registration is still valid on the same day up until 3:30 p.m.
- Visitors arrive by car and proceed through the gate, stopping along the way at our ticket kiosk where you will show your advance registration by cell phone, or announce yourself to our ticket attendant.
- You will be provided with our Garden Guide, a self-guided walking tour pamphlet with map and garden etiquette, to help you navigate through the garden.
- Once you are checked in, you will be directed to our parking areas.
Can a visitor walk in?
For the safety of all visitors, and in consideration of a two-way traffic flow, entry is by vehicle only.
I am arriving by a car service. How do I get into the garden?
Please have your driver proceed through the Main Gate to the ticket kiosk. You may be dropped off in the North Ridge Parking lot.
Are pets permitted?
The only animals permitted in the garden are certified service animals.
Are baby strollers permitted?
Strollers are permitted on the Main Terrace only, and not beyond the first staircase. Complimentary stroller parking is available on the East Terrace.
Is photography permitted?

Can I use Greenwood as a Wedding Venue?
Greenwood is not available as a wedding venue, whether formal or civil, or for wedding photography.
What happens in case of inclement weather, and I have already registered in advance?
Registration will be reissued for another day based on availability. If you are already on-site and must miss your experience due to weather, please stop at the Welcome Center as you exit to provide us with your contact information so that we can reissue your registration for another time.
Can I apply my admission fee to Membership?
Yes! Same day admission applies toward the cost of Membership. You will then have complimentary access to the garden plus many other benefits for one full year. Please see the Visitor Services Site Manager for assistance.
Are guided tours available?
Guided tours may be pre-arranged by emailing smurphy@greenwoodgardens.org. So you have sufficient information during your self-guided tour, we provide every visitor with a copy of our Garden Guide which includes the history of the garden and details about its features.
Are the Cottages and Main House open for tours?
The Cottages and Main House are not open for tours. The outdoor features of our 28-acre site are the focus of visitation.
Are the gardens wheelchair-accessible?
The restored Main Terrace with partial views of the gardens is accessible to all visitors. The remainder of the historic landscape at Greenwood is true to its original design with uneven terrain and stairs that can be difficult to navigate and therefore, is not wheelchair- or stroller-accessible. We do, however, offer accessible parking and public restrooms. We also offer stroller parking on the Main Terrace. Certified service animals are welcome.
Is there seating in the garden?
Benches are located throughout the garden, and we welcome you to sit and contemplate nature.
Is there a place to eat at Greenwood Gardens?
Yes. Adelaide’s accommodates visitors with seating for a-bring-your-own lunch. Seats and tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Light refreshments are sold at the Welcome Center. Eating is not permitted in other areas of the garden.
Are picnicking, blankets, and chairs allowed?
Blankets, chairs, food, or beverages, except for personal water bottles, are not permitted. Thank you for your cooperation.
Is there a gift shop?
Yes. Our gift shop is located at the Welcome Center.
