To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors, reservations are required in advance.
Entry is by vehicle only.

COVID-19 POLICIES

What has changed for visitors due to COVID-19?

  • Face-coverings and social distancing are required.
  • To ensure social distancing, we are limiting the number of visitors in the garden to 200 people per day.
  • Tours of the garden are self-guided only. Visitor Services Associates and Docents will be on-site to answer questions.
  • We will not be conducting monetary transactions in person. Credit card transactions are accepted in advance of your visit by phone or online.
  • Memberships and donations are accepted by phone or online.
  • The gift shop and Adelaide’s Café will not operate during the 2021 season.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes, to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, state guidelines require face-coverings to be worn. 

Do you have hand sanitizing stations?
No, however, visitors are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.

Will there be access to public restrooms?
Restrooms will be available and limited to two (2) people per room at any given time.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Entry is by advance timed ticket only. If you do not have a timed ticket for entry, you will be asked to re-enter after you order tickets from our website, pending availability. Click here to purchase tickets. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate members or general visitors without pre-reserved tickets.

If you have an urgent inquiry regarding your pre-arranged ticket, please email visitorservices@greenwoodgardens.org. We will do our best to accommodate requests.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
We are unable to return phone inquiries during the weekend when we are serving visitors on-site. We will respond to phone messages during office hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Are pets permitted?
The only animals permitted in the garden are certified service animals.

Are baby strollers permitted?
Strollers are permitted on the Main Terrace only, and not beyond the first staircase. Complimentary stroller parking is available in the East Pavilion.

Is photography permitted?
Only cell phone and pocket-sized cameras are permitted. Formal posed photography is not permitted. Review our Photography Policy by clicking here.

Entry

When may I visit the Garden?
The 2021 season begins Saturday, May 1 and runs through Sunday, November 7. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Entry is by advance timed ticket only which can be secured by registering at greenwoodgardens.org, by leaving a message at 973-258-4026, ext. 21 (messages returned on Wednesdays and Thursdays of the following week), or by emailing visitorservices@greenwoodgardens.org. All tickets allow for a 75-minute self-guided tour.
IMPORTANT NOTE: last entry of the day is at 3:30 p.m.

What are Greenwood’s entry procedures?

  • All ticket holders must arrive within 15 minutes of their indicated time slot. The garden closes at 5:00 p.m.
  • Visitors arrive by car and proceed through the gate, stopping along the way at our ticket kiosk.
  • Present a copy of your pre-reserved entrance receipt or announce yourself to our ticket attendant. You will be provided with our Garden Guide, a self-guided walking tour pamphlet with map and garden etiquette, to help you navigate through the garden.   • Once you are checked in, you will be directed to our parking areas.

Can a visitor walk in?
No, entry is by vehicle only.

If I have purchased a timed ticket and I am unable to visit, may I exchange it for another day?
Yes, based on availability, you may exchange your tickets by calling 973-258-4026, ext. 21. We are unable to return phone inquiries during the weekend when we are serving visitors on-site. Messages are returned on Wednesdays and Thursdays of the following week.

If you need to exchange your time for another on the date of your visit, please email visitorservices@greenwoodgardens.org.

What happens in case of inclement weather and I have already purchased my ticket in advance?
Tickets will be reissued for another day based on availability. If you are already on-site and must miss your experience due to weather, please stop at the ticket kiosk as you exit to provide us with your contact information so that we can reissue you a ticket for another time.

Can I apply my admission fee to Membership?
Yes, same day admission applies toward the cost of membership. Please see the Visitor Services Site Manager for assistance.

Are guided tours available?
Due to COVID-19, guided tours are not currently available. So you have sufficient information during your self-guided tour, we provide every visitor with a copy of our expanded Garden Guide which includes a thorough background on the history of the garden, archival photos, and details about its features.

Are the Cottages and Main House open for tours?
The Cottages and Main House are not open for tours. The outdoor features of our 28-acre site are the focus of visitation.

Are the gardens wheelchair-accessible?
The restored Main Terrace is accessible to all visitors. Greenwood’s varied terrain and staircases in other garden areas are not wheelchair-accessible.

Is there seating in the garden?
Benches are located throughout the garden and due to COVID-19, we ask that you sit only with your party.

Is there a café at Greenwood Gardens?
Yes, although Adelaide’s Café will not be open during the 2021 season due to COVID-19.

Is picnicking allowed?
No food or beverages, except for personal water bottles, are permitted on-site.
