What are Greenwood’s new entry procedures?
– All ticket holders must arrive within 15 minutes of their indicated time slot. Visitors are not permitted to enter after 3:30 p.m.
– Visitors arrive by car, enter through the main gate, proceed along the driveway and come to a stop at the ticket kiosk where you will be greeted by our ticket attendant.
– Please announce yourself or show your printed/digital receipt to the ticket attendant. The ticket attendant will provide you (and your party) with a complimentary copy of our Garden Guide to use in navigating through the garden. Visitors can also click here to download the Garden Guide in advance. You will then be directed to park in one of our visitor parking lots.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not have a timed ticket for entry, you will be asked to re-enter after you order tickets from our website, pending availability. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate members or general visitors without pre-reserved tickets. The last entry is at 3:30 p.m. and the garden closes at 5:00 p.m.
Can a visitor walk in?
Entry is by vehicle only.
What has changed for visitors due to COVID-19?
-Entry to the gardens is through advance purchase of timed tickets that secure a specific time slot for your visit. Because of the requirement to ensure social distancing, we must limit the number of visitors in the garden at any given time. We will allow for 38 cars every 75 minutes, with a maximum capacity of 100 people every 75 minutes.
– Face coverings and social distancing are required.
– Tours of the garden are self-guided only. Visitor services associates will be onsite to answer questions.
-We are not be able to conduct monetary transactions in person. Credit card transactions are accepted in advance of your visit by phone or online.
-Memberships and donations are accepted by phone or online.
-The gift shop and Adelaide’s Café will not operate for the Fall 2020 season
-All programming has been moved to an online format
Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes, to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, state guidelines require face coverings to be worn when social distancing is not possible.
Do you have hand sanitizing stations?
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer as we do not have dispensers on the premise.
Will there be access to public restrooms?
Due to COVID-19, restrooms are closed and only available in extreme emergencies.
When can I visit the Garden?
Following extensive renovations, Greenwood is reopening in Fall 2020 starting Sunday, September 13 through Sunday, November 8. Hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Two special Members-only preview days will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12. Entry is by timed ticket only and must be secured in advance by registering at greenwoodgardens.org or by calling 973-258-4026, ext. 21. All tickets allow for a 75-minute self-guided tour. Please note: last entry of the day is at 3:30 pm.
Are guided tours available?
Due to COVID-19, only self-guided tours are available during your visit. A new complimentary Garden Guide is available at our ticket kiosk upon check-in, or click here to download. Guided tours will resume when safe to do so according to state and federal guidelines with respect to COVID-19.
Can I apply my admission fee to membership?
Yes, same day admission applies toward the cost of membership. Please see the Visitor Services Site Manager on duty for assistance.
If I have purchased a timed ticket for a certain day and I am unable to visit that day, may I exchange it for another day?
Yes, based on availability, you may exchange your tickets by calling 973 258 4026, ext. 21.
What happens in case of inclement weather and I have already purchased my ticket in advance?
Tickets will be reissued for another day based on availability. If you are already onsite, and must miss your experience due to weather, please stop at the ticket kiosk on the way out to provide us with your contact information so that we can re-issue you a ticket for another time.
Is photography allowed?

Are the Main House or Cottages open for tours?
The Main House and Cottages are not open for tours; the outdoor features of our 28-acre site have always been the focus of visitation.
Is there a café at Greenwood Gardens?
Adelaide’s Café will reopen when state and federal guidelines governing COVID-19 allow.
Is picnicking allowed?
No food or beverages are permitted onsite except for personal water coolers.
Are the gardens wheelchair-accessible?
The restored Main Terrace is accessible to all visitors. Greenwood Gardens’ varied terrain in other garden areas is not wheelchair accessible.
Is there seating in the garden?
Benches are available and we ask that you sit only with your party.
Are baby strollers permitted?
Strollers are permitted on the Main Terrace only, and stroller parking is available in the East Pavilion. Strollers are not permitted beyond the first staircase leading to the Reflecting Pool Terrace.

Greenwood Gardens is open rain or shine. In cases of severe weather, Greenwood Gardens may close. If you are concerned about cancellations due to severe weather conditions, call 973.258.4026 for more information.
If you have purchased a ticket and cannot visit, call for alternate availability. Greenwood Gardens does not issue refunds for garden tours, programs, or events, unless the tour, program, or event is cancelled.
